Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Assessment

Diagnosis for ASD is made as per the DSM-V criteria.  This includes a 2-3 hour interview with parent or carer for ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised) and a 1 hour observation with the child - ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule). Both components can be done either in person or virtually, depending on the age of the child. The ADOS is usually a play session with some questions, that children usually enjoy participating in. This is followed by a feedback session to understand the outcome. A comprehensive report with recommendations for school will follow the assessment.  The advantage of having a paediatrician involved in the diagnosis is that we can then differentiate it from other neurological or developmental conditions and also discuss any related co-morbidities and genetic syndromes.

ADHD Diagnostic Assessment

This is a consultant led assessment based on the DSM-V criteria for ADHD. This involves an online assessment with parents and a conversation with the child. The child does not have to be present for the whole assessment. This is based on the DIVA assessment - a validated tool for ADHD. At times, we may use the Qb check. Data will be collected prior to assessment using SNAP IV questionnaires from parents and school. A comprehensive report will follow, including recommendations for school.

Combined ASD/ADHD Diagnostic Assessment

This assessment combines both the Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Assessment and ADHD Diagnostic Assessment - information on these found above. For parents who believe your child may have both autism and ADHD, this service provides both assessments at a discounted price. Our paediatrician will take a detailed developmental history, informed by data collected from parents and school (including a SNAP-IV questionnaire), and use this along with our SLT's ADOS to conclude if your child meets the criteria for one, or both, of these conditions. We recognise that co-occurring neurodivergences may mask each other, and as such, we take great care to make sure your child is diagnosed accurately.
